Project Rooftop: "Invincible Viltrumite Vogue” Redesign Contest Entry

Here is my entry for The Project Rooftop: "Invincible: Viltrumite Vogue” Redesign Contest.

My thoughts behind this were that Mark Grayson (Invincible) grew up with a superhero family and he was always waiting for his powers to come through. His Dad (Omini Man) also took him to a tailor to get his superhero suit made. I made him more rebellious. What if he didn't want to be a superhero like his Dad, what if he didn't want a tailor to make his costume.

Project Rooftop: Spider-Man 2.0 Redesign contest entry

This is my design for the Project Rooftop: Spider-Man 2.0 Redesign contest. I thought Peter Parker would need a more high tech suit. He created the web shooters, why not more, and not just a spandex suit? Lets start from the top.

I added more elements to the mask. Instead of a mask I made it a helmet. The dude gets knocked around in battle, so you would need something to protect your noggin. More "eyes" (lenses), like a spider. They could act as flashlights in a dark area, plus there could be night vision, infra red, etc.

I made the suit look more armor like, padding. Most his enemies are bigger and stronger, so one would need a suit like that in my opinion, Right? I also wanted to keep the spider insignia on his chest, but I incorporated the spider legs into the rest of the costume, breaking it up. I used black instead of red because it would be more stealth like, instead of blue and red. I added a honeycomb texture in place of the webbing pattern just for esthetic reasons. I also added a zipper seam on the costume because I imagine with all the superhero costume it would be a pain to have to hop in and out of a unitard. Plus what if you had to pee?

I gave him a backpack, because he would usually carry a camera and his civilian clothes. In the comics he would put them in a sack of webbing and tie it up somewhere. My thinking would be "Its spider webbing, wouldn't that ruin the camera and the clothes, or at least be a pain to get off?" So that's the thought behind the backpack, plus he could keep spare web shooters in there amongst whatever he needed or picked up (a bagged lunch, first aid kit?)

I added a utility belt because he would need spare cartridges for his web shooter. Plus he could have different web shooter cartridges for different purposes, Like in the comics he would have different strengths of webbing for different villains. Plus if he were to get into a building, he would need to break in, and I'm almost positive that not all buildings have ventilation shafts that you could crawl right into the building. So I added some lock picking tools to the utility belt.

I added knee pads, elbow pads, shoulder pads and sheath armor over his tibula and fibula, and metal on his knuckles. his shoes have plates on the toes and heels, because he does a lot of running and swinging kicks into people.

And that was my thought process for my costume redesign for spider-man. I hope it gets at least mentioned in the contest. Now that its finished and Ive had time to look it over, I can already hear some of the comments " Tron-Spider-man, Tom Clancy meets Spider-man, Nothing like Spider-man". I honestly look forward to the critique, no matter how torn apart it may be.

EDIT: Crap, I just realized his belt buckle, sort of looks like Deadpools.

EDIT: Smaller Version

Heat Wave

Another image I made, uploaded late because I'm lazy. We had a heat wave in July where is reached something like 110 degrees. Thank god for air conditioning. So my brain over exaggerates a bit and came up with the following pic.

Martha Cd Cover

I talked to Martha a couple months ago. She is sick of waiting for Jennifer Kanis and myself and Adult swim to give her, her own cartoon show. So she commissioned me to make her cd cover to her new pop album "Feed me baby one more time". She is currently touring over seas, who knows when we will hear from her again.

Just a doodle of a cheschire Cat.

Doodle in Photoshop, enjoy.

"Interesting" people drawn as Cartoons.

I thought I would add a new segment. Ive seen a lot of interesting people, and sometimes they end up in my sketchbook because they are truly...one of a kind. When people would look at my sketchbook they would think I made them up, But no, they are very real. So I decided to draw them with flash and color them to bring the full effect of what I remember. there are many more to come, but these are just a few so far.

This woman I never knew the name of, but she would shop at Roche Bros. in West Roxbury. She was very nice and spoke in a soft voice. She creeped people out a little bit though. She was a black woman with orange/blonde hair which was kinda styled like Braham Stokers Dracula, not as dramatic though. she wore pale (almost white) face makeup. she drew on orange eyebrows and wore fake colored blue contact lenses. She also dressed like she was from the early 1800's.
This is Leslie. I know her by first name because she would come into the store often, and anyone that would talk to her would know her name. I don't know what her deal is, but she would come in blaring rock music on her cassette player. She had long acrylic nails, sometimes taped together because she broke one. She always wore her signature Kiss shirt. She had smeared makeup and next to no teeth. She would get a cart, and drive it around the store. She once threw a bag of chicken at me because I wouldn't sell it to her for free, why she thought I would, I don't know. She also peed on the floor and then drove her cart through it leaving a trail. watch out for this one...yeah.
This is Teeny. I see this dog sometimes when walking my own. According to the owner it was the runt of a miniature Pomeranian litter, and belonged to her deceased mother. Its ancient, no teeth except the ones that stick out of its mouth, one bug eye and Its tongue seems too big for its mouth. Its probably the smallest dog Ive ever seen. There's a size chart to show how small it is next to my own dog.

Frank Figz CD Cover

A few months back I made a cover for my friends cd (which is coming out in September 2011) Frank McCarthy, Who goes by Frank Figz. His CD is being called "Cammies to Civis" You can check out his Facebook page for more information HERE. You can also check out his Youtube page HERE.

Una & Butters

This is a drawing I made in flash and Photoshop of my sister Una and my dog Butters. I wanted to go for a really simple, childish, cutesy sort of drawing. Giving the drawing textures of construction paper, wallpaper and bright colors.

Todays Drawing: Screaming Banshee

Today I was feeling inspired to draw something. I don't know why I drew a Banshee, It just ended up turning into one. All done in Photoshop.

The Easter....Bunny

Here is a sketch that I made completely in Photoshop. I was going for a different way of coloring. Incorporating what I learned with oil paints, but using that technique in Photoshop. When people saw the finished product, there were alot of mixed reviews, to say the least...

Voodoo Spider Sketch before Color & Ink

Here is the sketch of the voodoo spider I did in Photoshop before I went into Flash and did the inking to get crisp lines. Then I brought it back into photoshop and colored it.

Voodoo Spider Character sketch

I recently saw a video on youtube of a cool spider. Although I'm not a fan of Spiders, I found this one to be different. It has a colorful sort of plumage on its abdomen and does a kind of mating dance. Its also smaller than a thumbnail. When I saw this my mind got to working and my sister said it reminded her of a voodoo doctor kind of thing. I couldn't get that out of my head, I had to draw it. So below is what I came up with.
